I will never leave you

10 Oct 2024 • From Bishop Richard Jackson

In this week's video, Bishop Richard explores the next stanza of the creed, in which Christians declare that after his crucifixion, Jesus 'descended to the dead' or 'descended into hell' (Book of Common Prayer).

Bishop Richard says that Jesus 'completely identified with our humanity in order to heal all of our humanity.  Humans go to their graves as finite creatures and guilty sinners. Jesus went there too.'

'This creedal statement reassures us that Jesus Christ has so fully identified with the human condition that He is with us in life and in death.  Not only does the resurrection assure us that there is life beyond death, but that even death itself cannot separate us from Him.'
