Who do we blame?

9 Sep 2021 • From Bishop Richard Jackson

Speaking from the crypt of Lambeth Palace, Bishop Richard reflects on Jesus' encounter with the man at the pool of Bethesda, who seems to blame others for his disability.  Bishop Richard asks why those inside the Church of England are seemingly so easily drawn to scapegoating.

Instead of asking whose fault it is, Bishop Richard suggests instead that we should ask what God is calling each one of us to do, as individuals, to be faithful in the here and now.  'Jesus changed the world starting with about 120 people filled with the Holy Spirit, in a culture much more hostile and dangerous than our own.  Our hope is based not on our current circumstances, but on that power of the Holy Spirit.'
