The right use of authority

In this week's video, Bishop Richard explains the theological significance of Ascension Day (clear evidence of Jesus' claim to divinity and lordship with 'absolute authority over our lives').  He goes on to say that authority and power are not restricted to those in leadership.  Authority can empower people, release missional energy, and give security and safety.  That's best done when modelled on Jesus, whose authority was exercised with vulnerability, honesty, and emotional intelligence.  'At a time of change and crisis, understanding the possibilities and limits of authority are vital if we are to achieve the renewal of mission and effectiveness.'
